Law Wheelers Club Runs - West Calder Route

Law Wheelers Club Runs

Rumours the LW Club winter kit
is lined with Alpaca Fur
Law Wheelers have a number of classic routes, there are a couple of runs out to the East.

Below is a link to the Strava  route running from Newmains Cross, out to Fauldhouse, out past the Five Sisters Zoo, then loop around West Calder.A relatively flat outward section, gain around 200 feet over the first 15 miles, then it's an easy 10 miles around West Calder.
At this point the terrain and a westerly wind can act against you, with a gentle climb for the next 10 miles. Good news is the coffee stop at Carnwath, the excellent Apple Pie Bakery is the reward at the end of all the climbing. Well worth it.

After coffee and cake, it's the return leg heading on the lumpy back roads to Yieldshields. The undulations are frequent, and again the prevailing wind tends to make the gradients feel twice as bad as they look.

Some excellent views over Lanarkshire are the rewards once you reach the top of small village of Yieldshields, then there's the unofficial club Champs Elysees as you head down into Carluke, many a wheel has been chased down the through S bend and on towards the 30 Sign.

If you're new to the club or unsure of if you can keep up, see how you compare with the run. Remember it's harder cycling solo, so get in touch if you're unsure.
